Types of Horses

Suitable for all breeds and disciplines

Equine Bowen Therapy is suitable for all equines, from foals through to active sports horses to aged veterans.

Clients’ horses include performance horses from the worlds of horse racing, polo, eventing, show jumping, dressage, showing and endurance; but also include leisure horses, children’s ponies and retired horses. All horses are treated with equal care and attention to detail, irrespective of their role/job.

Gentle and non-invasive

Bowen can be a useful choice of therapy when the horse is suspicious or defensive of bodywork due to the presence of pain or fear. This is because Bowen requires relatively gentle pressure in order to be effective. Invasive adjustments are unnecessary to provoke a powerful response; in fact the term ‘less is more’ can often be applied to Bowen therapy.

A holistic approach

Discomfort, soreness and pain in a horse is often misinterpreted as ‘bad behaviour’. Some people describe their horse as grumpy, stubborn, naughty, fresh and temperamental, but often this is a horse trying to communicate with us that he needs help. Horses cannot talk to us to express their discomfort, we have to find out through veterinary diagnostics and observation. But sometimes even these methods still leave us guessing. Because Equine Bowen Therapy is holistic we do not need to diagnose the specific problem, the treatment targets the dysfunction and works to bring the horse to optimal health.

Preventative care

Equine Bowen Therapy improves wind, flexibility, muscle tone and limb fitness. Sports horses in full work are under great physical strain and regular treatments can help optimise health and help reduce the incidence of more serious problems. Horses are masters of compensation and a small niggle can cause a chain reaction which can result in a serious injury. Injuries in the sports horse are not only distressing for horse and owner, but are costly and expensive due to veterinary bills and time away form competing. By regular maintenance treatment and by treating small problems before they result in compensatory patterns you can save time and money in the long run. Treating you horse holistically with regular Equine Bowen Therapy is an investment and something that pays dividends in the long run. Prevention is better than cure.
